Shephaven Kennels is a small kennel located at Whakatane in the sunny Bay of Plenty, concentrating on temperament, health, trainability, and beauty with working ability.
I am a family oriented kennel, committed to enhancing the breed through my limited, planned breedings.
From selective and careful breeding I endeavor to offer you show, breeding, working and/or most important companion quality puppies that you will enjoy for a lifetime.
We take sending new puppies into this world very seriously, and strive to do our best in providing the ultimate in care for our new additions from the time of conception! We are selective in our breeding process, and consider the health of the puppies to be of the highest importance. Our goal for each breeding is to improve the breed. When we decide to do a breeding many factors are taken into consideration including structure, trainability, temperament, and health issues. We must first honestly evaluate the bitch as to her strengths and weaknesses. We consider what positive traits she has to offer and what traits need to be improved upon. Our goal is to select a stud dog who will hopefully improve upon her weaknesses.
My breeding dogs go thru Vet Checks including hip and elbow x rays which are read and scored by the German Shepherd Dog Council of Australia Hip Dyspla. All breeding stock are DNA Profiled and DNA tested for DM (Degenerative Myelopathy)
Our breeding dogs are not a business asset to us; they are members of our family. All of our dogs live in the house, and we whelp and raise our litters in the house as well. Keeping the litter in our home with us ensures they are in a safe, secure, climate controlled area, and allows us to easily keep dam and pups under careful observation. As the pups age, it also affords us the opportunity to expose the pups a variety of normal household sounds and activities on a daily basis.

BLACKASH LOYAL MIKA
Introducing our new long coat Mika,
She is smart, calm and so much fun. We cant thank her breeders enough for allowing Mika to come live with us and call the north Island home.
On her first outing at just over 3 months at wellington GSD show Mika took out Baby puppy in show twice.
Her critique under John Walsh was
3 1/2 months. Nice size and strength for her age. Very good firmness. Overall excellent
pigmentation. Feminine. Very good length of neck. High wither. Firm straight back. Good
length and lay of croup. Has a well angulated shoulder blade and a well angulated upper
arm. Very good hind quarter angulations, very good length of fore leg. Very good chest
development for her age. Correct going, correct coming. Movement is powerful, free and
very expansive.
Grading: Very Promising.

5 months - medium strong feminine bitch of good proportions, very good type, very good head & expression, good eye colour, firm clean top line, has very good angulations fore & hind quarter with good fore & under chest development for age, during movement displays very good drive & good reach with good overall firmness
Senna is a Multi class winner, National Class winner lsc 2015, NZ Champion, Gold Medal Winner and Multi Best of Breed winner.
