We provide opportunities for young people to compete in breed handling competitions, learn how to be a better handler and have fun with like-minded friends

The YDS Handling Competition

Classes are divided into age group

Tiny Tot - under five
5-7 years
8-11 years
12-15 years
16-20 years

You can compete with a pedigree dog which is 6 months or older and registered with Dog New Zealand and it’s your handling skills that are judged not the breed quality of the dog. Handlers are placed 1st to 5th in each class. 

Entries are taken on the day by the regional coordinators
Entry fee is $5.00

The winner automatically qualifies to compete in the national final. However, if those placed ahead of you are already qualified, you will also become a finalist.

Many YDS competitors go on the compete in the Junior Dog Handling competition which culminates in the national final winner competing at the international final at, CRUFTS  in Birmingham UK
