PD Insurance
Who is PD Insurance?
New Zealand pet insurance specialist PD Insurance has been a Dogs New Zealand principal partner since the beginning of 2023. A vocal advocate for pet health and animal welfare, PD has a great reputation for its three low-cost, high-value dog and cat insurance plans plus its speedy customer care and service, where it aims to reimburse claims within two business days.
These are key reasons why it won the 2022 Canstar Award for Most Satisfied Customers – Pet Insurance.
Add this to PD’s strong commitment to supporting pet breeding and pet care professionals, plus its dedication to educating pet owners via channels like its pet parents blog, and it is easy to see how PD benefits dogs and dog enthusiasts.
One key reason Dogs New Zealand partnered with this insurance provider is the alignment of our respective missions – to inform, educate and raise awareness of ethical dog breeding and responsible dog ownership.
At its essence, our partnership is about empowering breeders and pet owners to give puppies the best start in life and then keep them happy and healthy throughout their lifetime.
Attention: Breeders
PD Insurance created a Starter Cover programme for our breeders with a Dogs NZ kennel name, where you can sign up every new litter puppy for 4 weeks of free illness and injury cover valued up to $1,000.
No excess applies to claims made and any new conditions diagnosed during this period will continue to be covered if the puppy owner then moves into one of PD’s plans. If they do, they receive three months of free insurance thanks to the Dogs New Zealand connection.

PD Insurance will give you a period of free insurance for signing up online to one of its cost-effective plans:
- Accident – $5,000 annual benefit limit – Covers treatment for accidents plus third party liability
- Classic – $10,000 annual benefit limit – Covers the above plus treatment for a wide range of illnesses (including hereditary conditions after the waiting period passes)
- Deluxe – $20,000 annual benefit limit – Covers the above plus several dental treatments
